ECCC Partnership

Trellis Foundation is linked in vital partnership with the Evangelical Covenant Church of Canada to support discipleship initiatives by the ECCC’s member churches and affiliated ministries (i.e., camps and other future organizations). The work of Canadian Covenant discipleship was undergirded by the ministry of Covenant Bible College for 66 years and we continue in that legacy. In accordance with Canadian law for public foundations, Trellis Foundation provides grants to qualified donees who are registered Canadian charitable organizations.

Through our partnership with the ECCC, many of the existing conference-wide discipleship initiatives will continue to be supported and ‘held up’ through Trellis. For example, Trellis Foundation funds the CBC Legacy Scholarship program for students pursuing discipleship education, which is administered through the ECCC. The ECCC, its churches, camps and other future organizations are doing the hands on work of making and maturing disciples in Canada and we are privileged to be a catalyst in that work.

Covenant Affirmations & ECCC Priorities

The Evangelical Covenant Church is a rapidly growing multi-ethnic denomination in Canada and the United States with ministries on five continents of the world. Founded in 1885 by Swedish immigrants, the ECCC values the Bible as the word of God, the gift of God’s grace and ever-deepening spiritual life that comes through a faith with Jesus Christ, the importance of extending God’s love and compassion to a hurting world, and the strength that comes from unity within diversity.

The Evangelical Covenant Church is:

Evangelical, but not exclusive
Biblical, but not doctrinaire
Traditional, but not rigid
Congregational, but not independent

For Covenant people, our essential beliefs are summed up in what we call Covenant Affirmations:

We affirm the centrality of the word of God.
We affirm the necessity of the new birth.
We affirm a commitment to the whole mission of the church.
We affirm the church as a fellowship of believers.
We affirm a conscious dependence on the Holy Spirit.
We affirm the reality of freedom in Christ.

The ECCC’s work of supporting the local church is focused by its ministry priorities to:

Make & Deepen Disciples
Start & Strengthen Churches
Develop Leaders
Love Justice, Do Mercy
